Lyrics of the Day: Black Mountain

“Come on, lay your halo down
Well, angels, lay your arms around
Oh every city’s seen the setting sun
Call ‘em kicks, you know they just begun
So come on, lay your halo down
Oh, lady lady, don’t let your worries please
Well you got something
And that ain’t nothin’ to just let be”
- Black Mountain, “Angels”
Few bands today can top the psychedelic rock played by this highly talented fivesome from Vancouver. Since the band’s formation in 2004, Stephen McBean and gang have released three excellent albums (not including the soundtrack Year Zero released this year) that recall the glory days of rock n’ roll in the 1960s. Infectious grooves and romping guitar riffs have come to be expected with each Black Mountain record, and the band continues to please its ever-growing fanbase with each new release. “Angels” is taken from the band’s sophomore album, In the Future, which was nominated for the prestigious Polaris Music Prize in 2008. It’s a bluesy, psychedelic affair, and one of the many highlights off of arguably the band’s greatest record.
