Lyrics of the Day: Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble

“Well there’s floodin’ down in Texas
All of the telephone lines are down
And I’ve been tryin’ to call my baby
Lord and I can’t get a single sound
Well dark clouds are rollin’ in
Man I’m standin’ out in the rain
Well dark clouds are rollin’ in
Man I’m standin’ out in the rain”
- Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble, “Texas Flood”
Simply put, Stevie Ray Vaughan is one of the greatest guitarists of all time. Armed with a soulful voice and an uncanny ability to play the guitar, SVR ripped through blues tracks with frenetic, jaw-dropping riffs and solos that oozed passion and solidified his preternatural talent. He fronted a band that dubbed themselves “Double Trouble,” and the lyrics above stem from a song off of the group’s first official album, Texas Flood (1983). The song itself is a cover of a 1958 song by Larry Davis, yet Vaughan is able to give it a style and life uniquely his own with this recording. Amidst musings of leaving a loved one and the pain that he or she brings, Stevie Ray Vaughan effectively floors the listener with his guitar virtuosity throughout the track. Listen and appreciate one of the greatest guitarist below.
