Press Hogs: Week of May 15th
1. Beach House
With the release of the excellent Bloom this week, the duo were already flooding the blogosphere as reviews of the highly touted followup to Teen Dream surfaced. Yet the band also made headlines for a different reason, as it appears that a Volkswagen ad has used a song that definitively (and purposefully, it seems) ripped off “Take Care.” From the band’s statement, in which they intimated that they declined to license the song for the ad, it is clear that this was done in spite.
2. Yeasayer
Following up the brilliant and catchy Odd Blood (from 2010) is one tall order, yet judging from “Henrietta,” these New Yorkers seem poised for the challenge. A new album from Yeasayer in 2012 would be much appreciated.
3. El-P
Rapper El-P recently performed on David Letterman this past week, building support and further anticipation for his upcoming Cancer for Cure record to be released May 22nd. The album is available for a listen over at Rolling Stone. Expect to hear much more from this rapper in the near future, as his new album may indeed be the best rap release of 2012 when all is said and done.
